Amsterdam’s fitness scene is saturated, but Ultimate Performance (U.P.) caught our eye. Their “maximum results, minimum time” promise intrigued us.

Could they live up to it? We had to find out.

U.P. ditches the cookie-cutter approach. They gather over 150 data points to create a truly personalized training and nutrition plan, tailored to your body and goals.

But it’s the coaching that sets them apart. Trainers are your partners. They provide expert guidance, unwavering support, and the motivation you need.

The results? Impressive. We spoke with U.P. clients who achieved incredible transformations in short periods.

They also offer online personal training, ensuring the same level of personalized attention no matter where you train.

The catch? It’s a premium service with a premium price tag. While clients felt the investment was worth it, it’s something to consider.

Pros

  • Personalized training and nutrition plans
  • Expert and supportive trainers
  • Impressive results
  • Remarkable client success stories
  • Offers online personal training

Cons

Supports and answers questions with consistency

“I would really recommend UP if you are looking to make an investment in your physical health. I’ve been working with David for  6 months now and have never been healthier, stronger or more educated in regards to my health. David is always there to support me and answer any questions and he’s also great at tailoring his approach to my goals and lifestyle so that it’s been really sustainable change. The knowledge base you build with the UP trainers in regards to exercise, nutrition and the interplay between physical health and things like sleep and stress is unparalleled.”

Ensures every minute of training is impactful and productive

“Ultimate Performance Amsterdam on Rozengracht has been a game changer for me. I have done sports all my life, but as time went by my calendar changed and I couldn’t do as much as I wanted anymore. The approach and program of UP is complete and very effective, making sure every minute invested counts. They give you diet advice (not just “more protein” but across the food chain making sure you eat balanced) that is aligned with your goals, and then the trainers are extremely good at making sure you don’t hurt yourself but still get the maximum out of every training. My trainer is Klaudia and she is brilliant! Very technical and professional, always wanting me to improve. Whenever there was a calendar challenge another trainer would fill in so I can also confirm they are all different, but every single one is extremely good at what you pay them for!”

Accommodates and improves injuries with expert guidance

“I started training here at the end of 2023 through the introductory 3 sessions. Which was great to get a feel for personal training and the gym! I would highly recommend this if you are new to PT like I was. Since then I have started a full training schedule twice a week and am loving the progress so far! My trainer has been great at pushing me forward but has also been great at working with (and around) some injuries, which have now improved greatly because of my strength training! The gym is comfortable, well equipped and everyone including the trainers and other customers are super welcoming.”

Creates a comfortable and motivating workout environment

“I started at B-One 3 months back and I am very happy with the progress that I see. I enjoy and look forward to every workout with my PT. Tobie is great at pushing me to achieve my goals and helping me keep a track on my nutrient and step goals to have a sustainable journey into weight loss. I would highly recommend starting your PT journey here for the comfortable workout environment with knowledgeable trainers and a great protein shake post all the work!”

We’re always a bit skeptical of gyms that promise the moon, but Physicum in Amsterdam had us curious. Their approach of integrating physiotherapy with fitness seemed like a smart way to train, so we decided to give it a shot.

The first thing that struck us was the expertise of their trainers. They’re qualified physiotherapists who bring a deep understanding of the human body to their training. This means you’re getting a program designed to improve your function and prevent injuries.

We also love that they offer nutritional guidance and lifestyle coaching to support sustainable changes that complement your fitness journey.

Their body scan assessment is another valuable tool. It provides detailed insights into your physical condition and highlights areas for improvement.

And if you need support outside the gym, Physicum offers online lifestyle coaching. It allows you to access their expertise and make healthy choices wherever you are.

The only caveat? Physicum’s trainers are in high demand. So, if you’re interested, contact them early and book your sessions well in advance.

Paces workouts to energize and inspire progress

“It’s amazing how quickly I’ve come to enjoy personal training! In the past, my experiences with coaches left me feeling like training was too intense and even boring. But with Taneisha as my coach, I’ve actually started looking forward to my strength sessions. She’s incredible at using positive reinforcement and pacing the workouts in a way that makes me feel motivated and energized. Huge thanks to Taneisha! Finding the right coach is truly like finding the perfect therapist.”

Curious about their holistic approach to wellness, we recently checked out The Feel Good Trainer in Amsterdam.

Right away, we appreciated the private studio setting. It provided a welcoming and focused atmosphere, free from distractions.

Founded by Ananda Jenny, a trainer with over 20 years of experience, this studio promises more than just a workout.

Ananda’s approach impressed us. She takes the time to understand your needs and goals, creating a program tailored to you. We loved her emphasis on building long-term healthy habits, rather than quick fixes.

We also liked that she incorporates nutritional guidance and mindset coaching into her training. It felt like a complete approach to wellness.

Talking to her clients, we heard similar feedback. Many praised her supportive style and the positive impact on their lives.

However, some clients mentioned that they wished for quicker physical results. Ananda’s focus on long-term lifestyle changes may require more patience than some are willing to invest.

  • Provides nutritional guidance

Cons

  • Results take longer than expected

Guides clients toward long-term confidence in fitness

“Working with Ananda was a joy. She helped me to not fear the use of gym equipment and has encouraged me to take excercise at pace which is something I have struggled to manage with the all or nothing approach I tend to adopt. The 12 week program gradually supported me back into fitness independence and I am incredibly grateful. I would recommend Ananda to anyone but especially people needing a kind but firm approach.”

– Niamh O’Connor, Google Review

Creates a meaningful and holistic training experience

“Ananda, “Leukste Trainer”, it was really a luck for me working out with you. You helped me not only for physical training but also improving different approaches about daily situations and issues. And most important thing, I think I learned from you the real value of technics instead of counting and doing them in a hurry. Thanks again, and I will keep following you on instagram for your valuable posts about life, nutrition and inspiration.”

We recently decided to explore the Amsterdam fitness scene and see what Tromp Personal Training was all about.

First impressions? They offer a surprisingly wide range of options. Whether you’re into one-on-one training or love a good boot camp, Tromp seems to have something for everyone.

We were particularly interested in their Personal Training 10-Pack. It comes with a free nutrition and training plan, plus a free workout shirt for first-timers.

The “two-person” option for personal training also caught our eye, as it makes training with a friend much more affordable.

To get a real sense of what Tromp is like, we chatted with some clients. Most raved about the knowledgeable trainers, supportive atmosphere, and positive results.
